When you tell yourself something good where does the voice come from? (A)

What does it feel like to go running in the rain? (K)(V)

What does silk feel like on the skin? (K)

What is it like to settle into a nice warm bath at the end of the day? (K)

What is your favourite song? (A)

What colour is your best friend’s hair? (V)

Every question will solicit a different eye movement. Now you know about this, you can make a conscious effort to be more aware of how you think and feel.

With anxiety, one of the major effects on your visual representation system is what we call negative visualisation. If you think back to the internal dialogue and look at the catastrophic mind set, then this one is critical in defeating it. You can see the event or the incident take place in front of your eyes. The colours are bright. Sometimes the picture you are visualising is static and sometimes it is moving. It may or may not have sound. Let us stop that negative visualisation picture making your anxiety ten times worse.

I want you to remember this before you start. Anything you can do in real time with a 3D object in life, you can also do with your thoughts, visions, sounds and feelings. So if I placed a dark candle in front of you now and every time you looked at it, it filled you with dread and fear, the easiest way to solve the problem would be to remove the candle. You are about to treat everything which comes your way in this chapter like that candle. So let’s begin.

We will call this exercise the negative views, negative pictures. (V)

You have the picture and you can see it pretty clearly in front of your eyes. As you look and stare I want you to pay attention to the location of the picture, as later you need to take hold of it. Present thoughts generally appear directly in your line of sight. Past thoughts appear down and to the left, and future thoughts up and to the right (again this can be reversed depending on the person).

Now you have the location, I want you to answer the following:

Is it black and white or coloured?
